WebGraphicsRus was founded in October 2001, not by plan but by circumstance.
Earlier that year I was restructuring CarTunesShop.com, an online automotive accessories store built around a 12-volt installation business that had grown through dealer relationships across the tri-state area. The launch was set for the 2001 holiday season. September 11th changed that. Consumer confidence collapsed overnight, non-essential retail froze, and the direction I had been heading in stopped making sense.
What came out of that pivot was WebGraphicsRus. The dealer relationships I already had became the foundation. Instead of selling accessories to dealers I started building tools for them.
What the Work Involved
The focus was car dealerships throughout eastern Pennsylvania and southern New Jersey. Dealers in that era were being sold hard on internet technology that was expensive, generic, and built by people who had never spent a day on a car lot. The tools I built were different because they came from understanding how dealers actually worked.
That meant custom inventory templates, dealer login systems, vehicle description tools, credit application forms, and web-based controls designed to reduce what dealers were spending on technology while actually improving their results. Everything was built from scratch using Active Server Pages and Windows hosting because that was the reliable stack available at the time.
Beyond the automotive work, WebGraphicsRus also took on local business clients who needed websites, online advertising, IT support, and network services. The approach was always the same — practical solutions, clear costs, nothing more complicated than the problem required.
It was a small operation. Direct, one-on-one work with every client. That is how it stayed and that is what made it work.
How It Wound Down
As the large platforms matured the niche that WebGraphicsRus occupied got smaller. AutoTrader, Cars.com, and the dealer management systems built by bigger vendors absorbed the functions that independent tools used to handle. The market consolidated and moving on made more sense than chasing it.
The domain stayed. The work was real and worth preserving.
What This Site Is Now
WebGraphicsRus is an archive. The tools are retired but the history of building them is documented here, including recovered source files, original screenshots, and first person accounts of how the work actually happened.
The full origin story starts at CarTunesShop.com, where the accessories business and the 9/11 pivot are documented in detail. The dealer page here covers how WebGraphicsRus grew out of that. The Archive Notes posts go deeper into the specific tools and technology.
The web work and IT support that grew out of this period continues today through PCITService.com. The thread from 2001 to now is unbroken even if the tools look completely different.
